VW ID. Buzz Completes 92,000 km World Tour, Heads Straight to TÜV Inspection

Rainer Zietlow’s electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz has returned to Hanover after an ambitious world tour that took the van through 92 countries and covered more than 92,000 kilometers. The journey also racked up around 300 charging cycles, making it a notable real-world test of battery durability under extreme and varied conditions.

Upon arriving back in Hanover, the vehicle’s first appointment was a very German one: a TÜV technical inspection. The timing of the check is telling, as it came directly after the global expedition rather than following a period of rest or maintenance.

Long-distance electric road trips of this scale remain relatively rare, and the ID. Buzz’s return offers a useful look at how a modern EV’s battery and drivetrain hold up after sustained use across diverse climates and road conditions. The TÜV visit also provides an independent, standardized assessment of the van’s condition after its worldwide trek.

The tour covered a wide range of environments and charging setups, reflecting both the growing reach of EV infrastructure and the practical challenges that still come with driving an electric vehicle across dozens of borders and continents.
