BYD Prepares a Larger Sibling for Its $10,000 Seagull EV

BYD is getting ready to expand the lineup built around its most affordable electric car. The Seagull, which starts at roughly $10,000 in China, has become the company’s entry point into the EV market, and now a bigger version of that formula is on the way.

The same model is already familiar to buyers outside China under different names. In Europe, the UK and several other markets it is sold as the Dolphin Surf or Mini, giving BYD a compact, low-cost option to compete in segments where price matters most.

A first look at the upcoming larger variant has now surfaced, suggesting BYD wants to carry the appeal of its cheapest EV into a roomier package. That could widen the model’s reach to buyers who like the price but need more space.

If the smaller car’s reception is any indication, a bigger sibling could find an even wider audience, though BYD has not yet shared full details on the new model.
