Volvo VNR Electric Trucks Join Bronx Food Rescue Fleet

New York City’s biggest food rescue nonprofit is adding three battery-powered Volvo VNR Electric semi trucks to its operations, a move that promises cleaner air for Bronx neighborhoods that have long dealt with heavy diesel traffic.

The Class 8 electric rigs will handle pickups and deliveries for the organization’s hunger-relief mission, replacing older diesel trucks that contributed to local air pollution. The Bronx has some of the highest asthma rates in the state, making zero-emission freight vehicles an especially welcome change for residents.

Volvo’s VNR Electric is designed for regional hauling and local distribution routes, which fits the food rescue group’s daily operations across the borough and surrounding areas.
