Volvo Drops EX40 From US Lineup, EX60 Replacement Arrives in 2027

Volvo has confirmed it is discontinuing the EX40 in the United States, removing what had been one of its more accessible electric offerings from American showrooms. The move narrows the brand’s US electric range, and for the time being the most affordable Volvo EV on sale stateside will be the EX60, which carries a price tag of around $60,000.

That gap in the lineup won’t last indefinitely. According to the company, a replacement model is slated to reach the US market in 2027, giving Volvo a future entry point below the EX60 once the EX40 is gone.

The decision reflects the broader hesitation automakers are showing toward smaller, lower-priced EVs in the US, where demand and pricing pressures have reshaped product plans. For now, Volvo buyers looking for the brand’s most budget-friendly electric option will have to step up to the EX60, with the promised replacement still a couple of years out.
