US Automakers Quietly Retreat From Electric Vehicle Hype

Not long ago, major US car manufacturers competed to issue bold electric vehicle announcements. Press releases touting new battery models arrived constantly, often outpacing the actual share of EVs in their showrooms. That wave of enthusiasm appears to have faded, and the silence now says as much as the old statements did.
The shift is striking because it follows years of aggressive messaging, much of it triggered by the pressure Tesla created with the Model 3. Legacy brands once treated every electric milestone as headline material. Today, similar updates are harder to find, suggesting a change in priorities rather than a pause in product plans.
For EV watchers, the quiet is a signal worth monitoring. Automakers that once led with electric news may now be letting their actions, and their sales figures, do the talking instead.
