Two-Decade Indiana Study Finds No Drop in Home Values Near Wind and Solar Farms

A familiar objection tends to surface whenever a wind or solar project is proposed: nearby property values will suffer. Research out of Indiana now challenges that assumption, drawing on 20 years of sales data to look for a connection between renewable energy installations and home prices. According to the study, that connection simply isn’t there.

The findings add fresh evidence to a long-running debate over how utility-scale clean energy development affects the communities that host it. Rather than treating proximity to turbines or panels as a price penalty, the Indiana results suggest homeowners living near these sites have not seen their property values undermined over the period examined.

For developers, planners, and local officials, the takeaway is straightforward: concerns about falling home prices may not hold up when tested against two decades of real market activity. That doesn’t erase every local objection to a project, but it does remove one of the most frequently cited arguments from the ledger.
