Texas Solar Recycling Plant Targets One Panel Per Minute

A new solar panel recycling facility is taking shape in Texas, built to process end-of-life photovoltaic modules at a rate of roughly one panel every minute. The plant’s focus is on recovering the materials that make older panels worth mining in the first place: silver, copper, silicon, aluminum, and glass.

Rather than shipping partially processed material abroad for final refinement, the operation is designed to handle nearly the entire recovery chain on site. That approach keeps more of the value — and the environmental benefit — within the domestic supply chain.

As the first big wave of installed solar reaches retirement age, the question of what happens to those panels is moving from a future concern to a present logistics problem. Facilities like this one in Texas are positioning themselves as part of the answer, turning discarded arrays into a domestic source of raw materials.
