Tesla's Modular 'Unboxed' Assembly for Cybercab Takes Shape

Tesla is offering a closer look at how it plans to build the Cybercab, its two-door autonomous EV, using a manufacturing approach it calls ‘unboxed.’ Instead of a single long assembly line, the vehicle is split into major modules that come together on parallel tracks. According to the company, that parallel structure can shrink the overall production line to roughly half its usual footprint.

The strategy reflects a broader shift in how Tesla thinks about vehicle assembly: rather than moving a fully formed body through a chain of stations, sub-assemblies are built simultaneously and then joined at a later stage. The Cybercab, with its compact two-door layout, is seen as a natural fit for this kind of modular process.

Tesla has not detailed the full production timeline for the Cybercab, but the emphasis on ‘unboxed’ manufacturing suggests the company views the method as central to scaling the vehicle.
