Tesla Plans Dedicated Supercharger Sites for Robotaxi Fleet

Tesla is preparing to build Supercharger locations designed specifically for its robotaxi operations, according to InsideEVs. At present, the company relies on public Supercharger stalls for overnight charging, where staff physically connect the electric cabs to the plugs. That manual approach is seen as a temporary fix while Tesla works toward a fully autonomous ride-hailing service.

The new dedicated stations would likely be tailored to the needs of driverless vehicles, though Tesla has not yet detailed how they will differ from existing public chargers. The move signals that Tesla is thinking beyond today’s consumer charging network and toward infrastructure that can support a large-scale robotaxi fleet.

For now, the public network continues to handle the charging duties, with human operators doing the plugging in. As Tesla’s autonomous ambitions progress, the company appears to be laying the groundwork for a charging system that can keep robotaxis running without any human involvement.
