Lime and BHN Launch First Cycle to Work E-Bike Subscription in UK

Lime has joined forces with BHN Extras to bring shared e-bikes into the UK’s Cycle to Work framework, marking the first time an annual Lime subscription can be paid for through salary sacrifice. The arrangement is available through Cyclescheme, the long-running workplace benefit programme, and applies to all Lime locations across the UK that operate e-bikes — among them London, Milton Keynes, Oxford, the West Midlands and Nottingham.

The mechanics are straightforward: the Lime Annual Subscription, which includes 500 minutes of riding each month, is priced at £635 per year, or £52.92 monthly, before tax relief is applied. Once income tax and National Insurance savings are factored in, basic rate taxpayers pay around £38.10 a month, higher rate taxpayers about £30.69, and additional rate taxpayers roughly £28.05. Employers, meanwhile, can reduce their National Insurance contributions by up to 15% through the salary sacrifice structure.

The timing reflects a broader shift in how UK workers view their daily travel. Transport costs were 5.7% higher in June 2026 than a year earlier, according to the latest ONS figures, and research from BHN Extras found that a third of UK employees are weighing whether to cycle to work. Nearly half of those surveyed said that easy access to an e-bike would push them to ride more often — and this partnership is designed to close that gap, whether riders use Lime for an entire journey or to link up with public transport.

Peter Dando, Senior Director of Employee Benefits & Recognition at BHN, described Lime bikes as a common sight on UK streets, used for weekend trips, final legs home and increasingly the morning commute. Alice Pleasant, Lime’s UK Deputy Head of Region for Government Relations, added that the goal is to make shared e-bikes a more accessible option for everyday journeys — a sustainable, healthy and convenient alternative for getting to work.
