Lepas L6 Lands in Australia at $47,990 With 440 km Range

Lepas L6 Lands in Australia at $47,990 With 440 km Range

Chery Group’s newest brand, Lepas, has locked in Australian pricing for its debut local model — and it undercuts the $50,000 barrier. The L6 electric SUV will start at **$47,990 before on-road costs**, giving buyers yet another sub-$50k option in an increasingly crowded segment. Dealer test drives are scheduled to begin in early November.

  • Battery and range: A 65 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack delivers a claimed 440 km on the WLTP cycle.
  • Powertrain: Built on Chery’s LEXP architecture, the L6 makes 160 kW and 275 Nm; acceleration figures weren’t disclosed.
  • Charging: Lepas quotes a 30–80% top-up in 22 minutes on a 120 kW DC charger — a narrower window than the 10–80% benchmark usually cited for EVs. Maximum DC rate and AC capability weren’t separately listed.
  • Cabin tech: A 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen pairs with an 8.88-inch digital cluster, plus wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker Sony audio system and a 50 W wireless charger.
  • Ownership package: Seven-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, eight-year/200,000 km battery coverage, seven years of roadside assistance and seven years of capped-price servicing (pricing still to be confirmed).

Standard kit also includes 19-inch machined alloys, a panoramic sunroof with retractable shade, acoustic front-door glass, puddle lights and automatic parking assistance. Lepas lists a suite of advanced driver assistance systems but hasn’t detailed the individual functions.

Why It Matters

Lepas is the latest branch in Chery’s expanding multi-brand strategy, and the L6 is its calling card in Australia. Brad Ryan, who heads Lepas Australia, framed the launch as a milestone for introducing the brand’s design and technology approach to local customers, calling the sub-$50k sticker a “bold option” in a fiercely competitive electric SUV market.

On paper, the L6 leans on value rather than headline performance: LFP chemistry, a competitive warranty bundle and generous standard equipment. Buyers also get premium paint at no extra cost during an introductory window, with crimson purple, light speed orange, khaki white and bamboo grey available; carbon crystal black is pre-order only. The open question is timing — first customer deliveries remain to be confirmed, so the L6’s real test will come once examples reach driveways.
