Lawmaker Calls on DOT to Clarify Tesla FSD Oversight After Videos Show Drivers Asleep

A US congressman is pressing the Department of Transportation for answers about Tesla’s driver-assistance features following an NBC News review that turned up dozens of clips appearing to show motorists asleep behind the wheel.

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi sent Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy a set of five questions about Autopilot and Full Self-Driving, giving him until September 30 to respond. The request highlights ongoing questions about how these systems are monitored on public roads.

Tesla has long maintained that its vehicles still need a fully attentive human driver, and that the technology does not make a car self-driving on its own.
