BYD’s next wave of mid-priced SUVs has been caught testing on Canadian roads, signaling that the automaker may be preparing a more current lineup for its long-anticipated entry into the market. The sightings surfaced recently on RedNote, where footage showed the vehicles undergoing real-world evaluation.

The question hanging over Canada’s EV scene is whether buyers will receive BYD’s newest products or hand-me-downs already familiar to other regions. Europe, for instance, sells the Seal U — also known as the Sealion 6 — which is essentially a previous-generation model.

If Canada ends up with the fresher SUVs now being tested, it would mark a notably different strategy from how BYD has approached some other export markets. For Canadian shoppers weighing affordable electric options, the distinction between “latest” and “leftover” could matter a great deal.
