Ford Retires the F-150 Lightning as Fathom and EREV Pickups Approach

Ford has officially ended availability of the F-150 Lightning. The move comes as the automaker prepares to launch its next-generation electric pickups in 2027. Two new models are set to replace the Lightning: the Fathom EV, which carries a starting price of around $30,000, and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV).

The Fathom is positioned as a more affordable electric pickup, while the EREV variant aims to offer additional range for buyers who need it. Together, they represent Ford’s renewed strategy for electrified trucks. The F-150 Lightning, once a flagship of Ford’s EV push, will no longer be part of the lineup as these new options near production.

Ford has not yet announced precise launch dates for the Fathom or the EREV, but both are expected to arrive in 2027. The shift marks a significant change in Ford’s electric truck offerings, moving from the Lightning to a two-model approach.
