Filipino University Opens Electric Tricycle Prototypes to Commercial Investors

In Manila, Cagayan State University has taken a notable step toward turning its homegrown electric vehicle prototypes into commercial products. At the Sustainability Expo 2026, the university’s ElectroMobility Research and Development Center presented its electric tricycle designs to potential investors, signaling a push to expand domestic manufacturing and cleaner transportation options across the Philippines.

Rather than importing finished vehicles, the project keeps development and production knowledge within the country, which could support local industry while giving commuters a lower-emission alternative to conventional tricycles. Making the prototypes available to commercial partners is intended to move the technology out of the lab and into everyday use.

The initiative reflects a broader interest in electrifying the small vehicles that carry millions of passengers daily in Philippine cities and towns. By involving private investors early, the university hopes its designs can reach production and scale without relying solely on public funding.
