Fang Cheng Bao Passes 600,000 Sales as Tai 9 and Shark Pickup Line Up for Launch

BYD’s off-road-flavoured sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao has crossed 600,000 cumulative deliveries, a figure that lands just as the marque prepares its busiest product stretch of the year.
The announcement came via the brand’s Weibo account on Sunday, with no October model split attached — those numbers are expected from BYD shortly. At the close of September the running total sat at 582,173 vehicles, according to tallies compiled by CnEVPost.
A brand outgrowing its own niche
Fang Cheng Bao started life as a builder of boxy, ladder-frame off-roaders. That identity is loosening fast. The lineup now stretches across urban family SUVs, an electric sedan, a shooting brake and, soon, a pickup.
The growth curve backs it up. Sales through the first nine months of 2026 hit 285,436 units, up 147.53% year-on-year — already beyond the 234,637 vehicles the brand managed in all of 2025. September alone accounted for 43,181 deliveries, a 79.02% gain over the same month last year and 3.88% ahead of August.
The Tai 7 family SUV remains the backbone. General manager Xiong Tianbo confirmed on October 31 that the model passed 300,000 cumulative sales during October, a milestone that underlines how much of the brand’s volume still rests on one nameplate.
Formula S off to a slower start than hoped
The newer additions haven’t yet hit internal targets. Xiong admitted that October’s total came in below expectations, even though the Formula S sedan began volume deliveries early in the month and the Formula S GT shooting brake followed mid-month.
Her stated remedy is straightforward: push production harder in November and cut waiting times for buyers. No October delivery figure for the Formula family — nor the original target — was disclosed.
Pricing recap: Formula S sedan from ¥189,900 (~$28,290) · Formula S GT shooting brake from ¥219,900
Both models launched on September 16 and marked Fang Cheng Bao’s first move into the electric sedan segment, a market where parent BYD already has deep roots through its own nameplate and Denza.
What lands next
The November calendar is crowded. Display cars of the Tai 9, a six-seat SUV and the third member of the Tai family after the Tai 3 and Tai 7, started reaching stores across China this week ahead of an official launch after November 15.
- Tai 9: six-seat family SUV, launch window after November 15
- Shark pickup: China launch slated for late November or early December, with deliveries starting simultaneously
That pickup is arguably the more interesting bet. Fang Cheng Bao built its reputation on vehicles that look like they belong on a trail, and the Shark returns the brand to that territory after a stretch of passenger-car expansion.
Whether the 600,000 figure becomes a footnote or a springboard depends largely on how quickly the Formula line finds its footing. November will tell.
