EVgo Opens Los Angeles' Biggest Non-Tesla Charging Hub—And It Still Has CHAdeMO

EVgo has switched on its largest charging site in Los Angeles that isn’t operated by Tesla, and it comes with an unexpected bonus for drivers of older electric vehicles: CHAdeMO connectors are part of the mix. The network hasn’t abandoned the legacy standard, which many had written off as obsolete.

That decision matters for owners of early Nissan Leaf models and other EVs that rely on CHAdeMO. While most new charging infrastructure in the U.S. is built around CCS and, increasingly, Tesla’s NACS plug, EVgo’s move keeps a lifeline open for those older cars.

The station adds significant capacity to the region’s non-Tesla fast-charging footprint, giving Angelenos more options beyond the Supercharger network. For EVgo, it’s a bet that serving legacy vehicles alongside modern ones can be good business—and good PR.

Whether other operators follow suit remains uncertain, but for now, Leaf drivers in LA have one more place to plug in.
