Cupra Expands Tavascan Range With Cheaper Origin Trim in the UK

Cupra has broadened the Tavascan lineup in the United Kingdom by adding a new entry-level Origin trim, giving buyers a more affordable way into the brand’s electric SUV. The starting price now sits at £39,995, and several existing variants have also seen their stickers trimmed down.

The Origin pairs a 140 kW electric motor with a 58 kWh LFP battery, a combination Cupra says delivers a WLTP range of up to 273 miles. Acceleration from 0 to 62 mph is quoted at 8.6 seconds, while DC charging peaks at 105 kW — enough to take the pack from 10 to 80 per cent in roughly 26 minutes. The same drivetrain can be specified on the V1 and V2 trims. Standard kit on the Origin includes 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15-inch infotainment display.

Across the range, Cupra has rolled out fresh technology depending on trim. V1, V2 and above now offer a Mobile Device key that lets owners unlock and start the car via smartphone, plus vehicle-to-load capability for running external appliances. V2 and higher grades add a 12-speaker Sennheiser Contrabass audio setup, and the VZ and VZ Extreme variants pick up a Launch Control function. The wider Tavascan family also benefits from an Android-based infotainment system and a redesigned steering wheel fitted with physical buttons — a change likely to please drivers who prefer tactile controls over touch-sensitive surfaces.

The existing 77 kWh battery versions remain on sale, with 210 kW for the rear-wheel-drive model and 250 kW for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive VZ. Prices for some of those versions have dropped: the V1 with the larger battery now starts at £45,750, a £1,600 reduction. The VZ begins at £54,930 (down £1,060) and the VZ Extreme at £59,830 (down £1,005).

The UK launch of the Origin follows a broader European update to the Tavascan range first announced in March, which introduced the 58 kWh LFP battery and 140 kW motor alongside the upgraded cockpit and digital key features. For context, the new UK starting figure of £39,995 sits against listed prices of €39,990 in the Netherlands and €49,900 in Germany, though equipment levels, pricing and purchase incentives differ from market to market.
