Chinese and US Entrants Could Capture Over 25% of Europe's Electric Truck Market by 2030

European truck manufacturers face mounting pressure to speed up their electrification plans or risk handing a significant slice of the region’s electric truck market to outside competitors. According to analysis from Transport & Environment (T&E), Chinese and American truckmakers are positioned to secure more than a quarter of that market by 2030 if current trends hold.

The group examined e-truck costs and technical specifications to reach its conclusion, warning that EU producers need to move faster on electrification to defend their current leadership position. T&E also stresses that keeping the existing ambition of truck CO2 standards intact will be essential to that effort.

The warning highlights a broader competitive dynamic in the heavy-duty vehicle sector, where established European brands are being challenged by newer players eager to capitalize on the continent’s shift toward zero-emission freight transport.
