Chery's Lepas Brand Brings 440 km L6 Electric SUV to Australia

Australia’s growing list of EV nameplates is about to get another entry, this time from Lepas, a marque under the Chery Group umbrella. The brand has now confirmed the key specifications for its first model, the L6 EV, an electric SUV that will spearhead its Australian launch.

According to the details released so far, the L6 EV is rated at 440 km of range, positioning it in the heart of the family-sized electric crossover segment that has become increasingly crowded Down Under. By entering the market with an SUV rather than a smaller hatchback, Lepas is targeting the body style Australian buyers have consistently favoured.

Lepas joins a wave of Chinese-backed brands that have moved quickly to establish a presence in Australia, a market that has shown strong appetite for affordable electric models. Backing from Chery, one of China’s larger automotive groups, gives the new marque an established manufacturing and supply base to draw on as it builds out its local lineup.
