CATL Eyes American Pickup Market With New Battery Line

CATL is setting its sights on the American pickup truck segment with a fresh battery lineup, signaling that the Chinese battery giant sees room to grow in the U.S. despite ongoing trade tensions. The company believes its cells could power the large, energy-hungry trucks that dominate American roads.
To navigate import barriers and political resistance, CATL is weighing local manufacturing through licensing agreements. Rather than building and operating its own plants, the firm could hand its technology to U.S. partners who would produce the batteries on American soil.
The approach would let CATL tap into the world’s most lucrative pickup market while sidestepping some of the restrictions that have limited Chinese firms’ direct access. Whether U.S. automakers and policymakers embrace the licensing model remains an open question.
