BYD Unveils the Great Han EV: A Flagship Sedan With Over 1,000 km of Range for About $35,000

BYD has officially opened sales in China for its latest flagship electric sedan, the Great Han, marking a significant milestone for the automaker’s Dynasty series. As the brand’s first fully electric D-segment model under the Dynasty umbrella, the Great Han arrives with a starting price of 235,900 yuan—roughly $35,000—positioning it as a high-value contender in the luxury EV market. The launch, which took place on Tuesday, introduces three distinct variants, offering buyers a choice between single-motor and dual-motor configurations.

The standout figure in the Great Han’s specifications is its range. The base rear-wheel-drive Premium model boasts an impressive CLTC range of up to 1,008 km (approximately 626 miles), while the top-tier all-wheel-drive Flagship variant delivers 880 km (about 546 miles). These numbers are made possible by a 102.326 kWh BYD Blade 2.0 battery pack. For those seeking more power, the RWD models feature a single motor producing 370 kW (496 hp), whereas the AWD variant adds a 200 kW front motor for a combined output of 570 kW (764 hp), promising robust performance alongside efficiency.

In terms of dimensions, the Great Han stretches 5,256 mm in length with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, making it slightly larger than the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air. It is roughly comparable in size to a long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class, underscoring its ambitions in the luxury segment. Buyers can expect premium features such as the DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension system, rear-wheel steering, and zero-gravity front seats. Technology is also a focal point, with a roof-mounted LiDAR and BYD’s God’s Eye B intelligent driver assistance system enabling Navigate on Autopilot for highways and cities, plus remote autonomous parking.

Charging speed is another highlight. Leveraging BYD’s second-generation Blade Batteries and Flash Charging technology, the Great Han can replenish from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, with a full recharge from 10% to 97% completed in nine minutes. This aligns with BYD’s broader push to make electric vehicles more convenient for everyday use. The Great Han joins the Great Tang SUV as a flagship under the Dynasty lineup. Following the Great Tang’s launch in mid-June, BYD sold over 10,000 units monthly in the first three months, setting a high bar for the new sedan.

With its combination of long range, powerful performance, and luxury appointments at a competitive price, the Great Han is set to challenge established players in the premium EV space. As BYD continues to expand its Dynasty series, the market’s response to this flagship sedan will be closely watched.
