BYD Opens the Doors on the Second-Gen Seal 07 Cabin, and It's Aiming Upmarket

BYD Opens the Doors on the Second-Gen Seal 07 Cabin, and It's Aiming Upmarket

BYD is slowly pulling back the curtain on the next Seal 07, and this time the camera has moved inside. Two days of Weibo teasers from the Ocean lineup team have now shown both the bodywork and the passenger cabin of the second-generation sedan, with an executive describing the interior as a “light-luxury” space.

Zhang Zhuo, who runs sales for BYD’s Ocean family, shared the cabin images on Friday. What’s visible: zero-gravity seats with massage, ventilation and heating, plus a 20-speaker Devialet audio system. A day earlier, his post had focused on the exterior.

Neither update came with a price tag, a spec sheet or a launch date. That silence is deliberate — BYD is stretching this campaign out.

What the filing already told us

The car isn’t a mystery to regulators. It showed up in China’s MIIT catalog back on August 7, listed in both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid forms, all five-seaters. The dimensions put it firmly in full-size territory:

  • Length: 5,080 mm
  • Width: 1,960 mm
  • Height: 1,495 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,960 mm

That’s 85 mm more length and 60 mm more wheelbase than the Seal 07 EV that arrived in March. Call it a stretch, but a meaningful one for rear-seat room.

Filed Specs: BEV motors at 245 kW (329 hp) and 300 kW · LFP batteries · PHEV pairs a 115 kW 1.5L engine with a 160 kW motor · 38.029 kWh pack · 245 km electric-only range

On the electric side, both motor outputs beat the 240 kW of the current car. The plug-in keeps the Seal 07 DM-i badge.

The design language

September 28 brought the first official exterior shots: a reworked front fascia and daytime running lights, a fastback roofline, a full-width light bar out back, semi-hidden door handles and a LiDAR pod on the roof. BYD hasn’t said a word yet about what that sensor actually enables, or how the trim walk will be structured.

For reference, the current Seal 07 EV launched March 5 in two trims at 169,900 yuan ($25,290) and 189,900 yuan, using a 69 kWh second-generation Blade Battery with up to 705 km of range. The 2026 Seal 07 DM-i came out in September 2025 across four trims, from 149,800 to 186,800 yuan.

Why the refresh matters more than usual

The Seal line — Seal 08, Seal 06, Seal 07, plus the Seal 06 GT and the Seal 06 DM-i wagon — is one of the pillars of BYD’s Ocean range. But the numbers have been sliding. September volume hit 46,718 units, down 9.04% year-on-year and slightly below August. Through nine months the family sits at 304,723 units, a 14.11% drop. In 2025 it moved 518,412 vehicles, roughly 11.26% of BYD’s total.

So this isn’t a routine mid-life nip. It’s a reset for a nameplate that needs momentum back.

The timing fits a broader product offensive. BYD launched the Da Han EV flagship on October 13 and the second-generation Seagull on October 20, with Fang Cheng Bao’s Tai 9 and the Shark pickup also queued for China in the coming weeks. Whether the new Seal 07 can reverse the slide is the open question — and the answer won’t come cheap, given what’s now standard in that cabin.
