BYD Doubles Down on Global Expansion with Ten New Car Carriers

BYD is making waves again in the global shipping arena. After taking delivery of the ‘Shenzhen’ last year—a massive vessel with room for 9,200 vehicles, which the company noted could cover 20 football fields—the Chinese automaker has placed an order for ten additional car carriers. The original ship, which embarked on its maiden voyage in 2025, remains a symbol of BYD’s logistics ambitions.

The move comes as BYD accelerates its push into European and North American markets, where demand for affordable electric vehicles continues to climb. By controlling its own maritime transport, the company aims to reduce reliance on third-party shipping and keep costs down amid volatile freight rates.
