Zagreb’s ZET Puts 62 Electric Buses on the Road

The Croatian capital Zagreb has taken a major step toward greener public transit. This week, the city’s municipal operator ZET officially launched a fleet of 62 battery-electric buses, alongside a complete charging infrastructure to support them. The move is part of a broader push to cut emissions and modernize the city’s public transport network.

The new fleet includes 30 solo buses, 26 articulated models, and six midi-buses, supplied by MAN and Iveco. Each vehicle is tailored to different route demands, from high-capacity corridors to narrower inner-city streets. Building the fleet and its charging network required an investment of close to 56.8 million euros, a significant outlay that underscores Zagreb’s commitment to clean mobility.

With these buses, ZET expects to reduce diesel use considerably on the affected routes. The deployment also strengthens the case for further electrification across the Western Balkans, where many cities still rely on conventional powertrains. For passengers, the new vehicles promise quieter rides and zero tailpipe emissions, improving air quality along some of the capital’s busiest lines.
