Infineon Bundles Inverter Power Rails, Resolver Drive and Safety Logic Into One Chip

Infineon has rolled out a new power management IC aimed at the high-voltage traction inverters inside electric and hybrid vehicles. The OPTIREG TLE9744QK pulls together several functions that inverter designers normally have to source separately.

According to the company, the device consolidates the inverter’s supply rails, the circuitry that drives the position sensor’s excitation winding, and a purpose-built safety block into a single package. In a typical inverter control unit, engineers need multiple isolated supply voltages to keep the microcontroller, communications modules and sensors running.

The goal is a leaner, more compact inverter ECU with fewer discrete components and simplified safety architecture. Infineon positions the part under its OPTIREG family of power management products.
