Xpeng G9L First Seat Test: Luxury SUV Set for European Debut in Paris

Xpeng is preparing to pull the wraps off its largest SUV yet, the G9L, at the Paris Motor Show. The model has already gone on sale in China, and European buyers will soon get their first chance to see it in person. Ahead of the official reveal, we were invited to sit inside the G9L for an early impression of what the brand’s new flagship has to offer.
The G9 has been part of Xpeng’s lineup for nearly four years. It received its first facelift last year, and the G9L now joins the range as a bigger, more spacious alternative. The ‘L’ in the name signals a clear focus on rear-seat comfort and overall interior room, positioning the vehicle above the standard G9 in Xpeng’s growing portfolio.
Our first encounter with the G9L took place in Basel, where the SUV was made available for a static seat test. While full technical specifications remain under wraps until the Paris unveiling, the cabin already leaves a strong impression. The materials, seating position and overall sense of space suggest that Xpeng is aiming squarely at the premium segment with this model.
The timing of the G9L’s European launch is notable. Xpeng has been expanding its presence across the continent, and a large, luxurious SUV could help the brand compete more directly with established premium players. The Paris Motor Show will serve as the official stage for the model’s European premiere, and it is only then that Xpeng is expected to release detailed information on powertrains, battery options and pricing.
For now, the G9L remains something of a teaser. What is clear is that Xpeng sees the model as a statement of intent: a bigger, more upscale electric SUV designed to appeal to European buyers who want space and refinement without leaving the electric segment. More concrete details will follow once the covers come off in Paris.
