WACKER Debuts Oil-Releasing Silicone Rubber for EV Battery Cooling Seals

German chemical manufacturer WACKER has introduced ELASTOSIL LR 3822, a liquid silicone rubber intended for connector seals and sealing components within the cooling circuits of electric vehicle traction batteries.

The material works by continuously releasing silicone oil from its cured surface, which helps simplify the assembly of coolant seals. WACKER notes that it is the first oil-exuding elastomer on the market that also withstands exposure to coolant.

The oil bleed effect is designed to reduce friction during seal installation or mating, making it easier to assemble cooling-circuit connectors without damaging the seal. Because the elastomer remains resistant to coolant even while releasing oil, it addresses a common pain point in EV battery thermal management hardware.

Sealing failure or assembly damage in battery cooling systems can lead to coolant leaks and reliability issues for EV manufacturers. WACKER’s product targets this exact junction between sealing performance and production-line efficiency.
