VW ID. Tiguan to Replace ID.4 in 2027, Starting at €42,695

VW ID. Tiguan to Replace ID.4 in 2027, Starting at €42,695

Volkswagen has confirmed that the ID. Tiguan will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5 electric SUVs, with the first examples arriving in early 2027. The starting price is set at €42,695, positioning the new model as a direct replacement for the ID.4 while borrowing a nameplate long associated with VW’s best-selling combustion SUV.

The ID. Tiguan will offer a choice of powertrains delivering up to 220 kW, roughly 295 horsepower. Volkswagen quotes a maximum range of up to 600 kilometres on a single charge, depending on battery and drive configuration. Towing capacity is rated at up to two tonnes, a figure that should appeal to buyers who need an electric SUV for hauling trailers or caravans.

The decision to adopt the Tiguan name is a clear branding move. By linking the electric model to the combustion Tiguan, Volkswagen aims to transfer the recognition and trust of its most popular SUV to its electric lineup. It also signals a shift away from the ID. numbering scheme that began with the ID.3 and ID.4.

The ID.4 and ID.5 will be phased out as the ID. Tiguan takes over. While full technical details such as battery sizes and charging speeds have not been released, the announced range and power figures place the new model competitively in the mid-size electric SUV segment.

With production scheduled to start in early 2027, the ID. Tiguan will face rivals from Tesla, Hyundai, and other established brands. Its success will depend on whether the familiar Tiguan badge can convince traditional buyers to make the switch to electric.
