Volvo Trucks Kicks Off FH Aero Electric Production, Debuts 80-Tonne Electric Rig

Volvo Trucks has begun series manufacturing of its FH Aero Electric, with the first long-haul units now leaving the line at the company’s Tuve facility near Gothenburg, Sweden. The model is rated for up to 700 kilometres of driving range, positioning it as a serious contender in the electric heavy-duty segment.

Alongside the production milestone, Volvo is using the IAA Transportation show to present an electric truck rated for 80 tonnes. The heavy-haul demonstrator underlines how far battery-electric drivetrains have moved into territory once reserved for diesel.

Series output of the FH Aero Electric signals that electric long-haul trucks are shifting from concept studies to volume manufacturing. Volvo’s Tuve plant now serves as the launch base for the new model.

The 80-tonne vehicle on display at IAA Transportation extends that message to the most demanding transport tasks, where electric alternatives have traditionally struggled to compete.
