Tesla Trims Model 3 Sticker Prices in Australia by up to $2,750

Tesla has moved to clear out unsold inventory in Australia, attaching discounts of up to $2,750 to Model 3 sedans that are already sitting on lots. The reduction, advertised on the company’s local website, applies to vehicles parked in the Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania and Victoria across a spread of trim and colour combinations. In percentage terms the saving works out at just under 5 per cent off the usual drive-away figure.

The timing follows a similar push on the Model Y, Australia’s strongest-selling electric vehicle, which has carried a discount close to $3,000 for vehicles available immediately. Buyers who part with an older car as part of the transaction can stack another $2,000 trade-in credit on top of the Model 3 reduction, and the combined package is scheduled to run through the end of 2026.

Tesla’s Australian line-up now spans four Model 3 configurations: a Premium rear-wheel-drive, a Premium RWD Long Range, an all-wheel-drive Performance, and the more recently introduced entry RWD. That base RWD variant opens at $45,900 before on-road charges -- the first Tesla sold in the country to dip below the $50,000 threshold. It also becomes the first single-motor, standard-range Tesla to post a WLTP figure beyond 550 km, rated at 572 km, a number that places it among the most efficient electric cars on sale. Higher up, the Premium RWD starts at $54,900, while the Performance version climbs to $80,900 before on-road costs.

Through the first nine months of the year Tesla has registered 41,705 electric vehicles in Australia, of which 5,775 were Model 3s. That is a modest lift on the 5,416 Model 3s recorded over the same stretch in 2025, a gain that stands out because demand for sedans has been slipping as buyers migrate toward SUVs. Rival BYD illustrates the shift clearly: its Seal sedan has notched 3,808 sales, while the Sealion 7 SUV has collected close to 20,000. BYD is countering with its own incentive, taking 6 per cent off novated leases on the Seal, so shoppers weighing an electric sedan now have two discounted options to consider.
