Tesla Teases Halloween Mode Update Featuring Optimus Emerging from a Graveyard

Tesla is getting into the spooky season with a software update teased on social media, and the short clip suggests the company is planning something more elaborate than a simple festive easter egg. A brief video shared on X opens with a glowing jack-o’-lantern before the camera pulls back to reveal the vehicle’s center display, where the standard parked-car visualization has been swapped for a graveyard scene. The car itself appears draped in a white sheet, giving it the look of a cartoon ghost.

The most striking element, however, is a robotic hand clawing its way up through the dirt in zombie fashion. That hand appears to belong to Tesla’s latest Optimus V3 humanoid robot. Tesla has yet to publicly demonstrate Optimus Gen 3 walking in a service environment, but renders extracted from the company’s Android app last month offered the clearest glimpse yet of the design, including notably more refined hands that Tesla says feature 22 degrees of freedom. The hand has proven to be the program’s toughest engineering challenge; CEO Elon Musk has described it as representing the majority of the robot’s engineering difficulty, and Tesla patents outline a tendon-driven design with actuators relocated into the forearm.

Optimus already has a Halloween track record. Last October, the robot handed out candy in Times Square, and a costumed “zombie” Optimus shuffled around the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles on Halloween night.

On the software side, Tesla’s 2025 Holiday Update expanded Santa Mode with a sleigh, snowmen, snow effects, and a festive lock chime. A similarly themed Halloween Mode would be a natural next step, though Tesla has not confirmed exactly what the update will include or when it will roll out.
