Tesla Roadster Takes Center Stage on This Week's Electrek Podcast

Tesla’s freshly unveiled Roadster is the main talking point on the latest episode of the Electrek Podcast, with host Fred Lambert steering the conversation toward the reveal and the questions swirling around it.

The show goes live every Friday at 4 p.m. ET on Electrek’s YouTube channel, and the audio version lands afterward on the usual podcast platforms, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Overcast, Pocket Casts, Castro and the RSS feed among them. Viewers who tune in live can drop questions and comments into the YouTube chat while the stream is running.

Beyond the Roadster itself, the episode digs into whether Tesla’s more outlandish claims about the car hold up, or whether the whole thing rests on little more than cold gas thrusters and hype. That debate has been building since the unveiling, and the podcast gives it room to breathe.

The Roadster is far from the only item on the rundown. The Smart #2 also gets airtime, a revival of the electric Fortwo formula with a claimed 290 km of range and a €19,990 price tag. Rivian’s Mind Robotics venture and its hire of Doug Field, formerly Tesla and Ford’s EV chief, is another topic on the table, as is Volkswagen’s plan to make the ID. Buzz more affordable while packing in what the company calls plenty of secret sauce.

There’s a more sobering thread too. Tesla has confirmed that Autopilot/FSD was engaged when a car crossed a median and killed a man, a detail that is bound to shape the discussion around driver-assistance claims.

Comments from the audience are already rolling in. One reader, Rob Barros, argued that if a flying Roadster ever reaches production, it should be barred from operating in airspace shared with ground-based transport and should require FAA licensing. That reaction captures the mood around the reveal pretty well, a mix of curiosity and skepticism.

Once the live broadcast wraps around 5 p.m. ET, the video is archived on YouTube and the audio is pushed out to podcast apps. Electrek also runs a Patreon for listeners who want to support the show and cut down on ads.
