TDK Pushes MLCC Capacitance Higher With New 100 V Soft-Termination Part

TDK has expanded its CN family of soft-termination multilayer ceramic capacitors with a fresh addition that reaches 10 μF at a 100 V rating. The component comes in the 3225 case format, a footprint the company describes as the smallest to deliver that level of capacitance at this voltage.

According to TDK, the new part relies on an X7R dielectric, the widely used industry classification for ceramic capacitors that must hold their capacitance across a broad temperature range. Because the CN series is built with low-resistance soft terminations, the design is aimed at applications where mechanical stress and board flexing can otherwise crack rigid solder joints.

Automotive and power electronics engineers often look for exactly this combination: high voltage headroom, compact dimensions and a termination style that survives thermal cycling. TDK positions the 100 V, 10 μF option as a way to shrink the passive component count in such designs without stepping up to a larger case size.
