Shell and FAW Team Up to Advance Electric Semi Truck Battery Safety

Shell and Chinese manufacturer FAW have announced a partnership aimed at improving the battery systems used in electric semi trucks. Their joint effort centers on the Starship 3.0 concept truck, which has been undergoing recent testing.

The Starship 3.0 features an immersion-cooling system designed to manage battery heat more effectively. By keeping temperatures in check, the setup is intended to improve range performance while also extending the durability of the battery pack.

Heat management remains one of the biggest engineering hurdles for heavy-duty electric trucks, which must carry large battery packs over long routes. Better cooling could help address both safety and longevity concerns as the industry pushes toward electrifying freight transport.
