Renault and Geely Boost Brazil Joint Venture with $368M Investment

Renault and Geely are deepening their partnership in Brazil with an additional US$368 million commitment to their joint venture. The move signals a long-term bet on one of Latin America’s largest automotive markets, where flexible-fuel technology remains a dominant force.

The investment will support the development of flex-fuel hybrid vehicles alongside a battery-electric model, reflecting Renault’s tailored approach to the region. Rather than applying a single global template, the automaker appears to be shaping its Brazilian lineup around local fuel preferences and infrastructure realities.

Brazil’s longstanding reliance on ethanol-blended fuels has made flex-fuel powertrains a practical choice for automakers operating there. By pairing those with a BEV offering, the partners aim to cover a broader spectrum of consumer needs as electrification gradually takes hold.

The joint venture structure allows both companies to share costs and risks while leveraging their respective strengths in hybrid and electric technologies. For Geely, the expansion strengthens its footprint in South America; for Renault, it reinforces a market where the brand has deep historical roots.
