Tesla Faces Landmark Civil Rights Trial Over Alleged Discrimination at Fremont Plant

Tesla is set to appear in court today to answer claims that its main production facility in Fremont, California, allowed a hostile environment for Black employees. The lawsuit, filed by the state of California, alleges that thousands of workers were subjected to racial epithets, segregated work areas, and unequal pay. More than 6,000 individuals are covered by the case, and there is no statutory limit on potential damages.

This trial marks the first time a government body has taken a discrimination case against Tesla all the way to a full hearing. It is also the largest among a series of legal challenges the company has faced since 2017. The outcome could have significant implications for workplace practices at the automaker and beyond.
