Porsche Brings Inductive Charging to the Cayenne Electric

Porsche is now letting buyers of the Cayenne Electric skip the cable altogether. The company has introduced a wireless charging option for the electric SUV, using an inductive setup that transfers power through a magnetic field rather than a plug.

The hardware consists of two parts: a floor-mounted charging pad installed at the parking spot, and a base plate fitted to the underside of the vehicle. When the SUV is positioned over the pad, the two components line up and energy passes across the gap without any physical contact between them.

Wireless charging of this kind is aimed at owners who want the convenience of simply parking and walking away, with no cable to handle in daily use. Porsche’s move puts the Cayenne Electric among the growing group of EVs offering inductive charging as a factory option.
