Onsemi Unveils Embedded Power Platform to Boost EV Inverter Power Density Fourfold

Onsemi has pulled back the curtain on its Embedded Power Platform (EPP), a fresh architecture for power electronics that the semiconductor maker says can deliver up to four times the power density of conventional designs while cutting power losses by 15 per cent in electric vehicle traction inverters. The announcement positions the company at the center of efforts to make EVs more efficient without adding bulk. Higher power density means inverters can handle more current in a smaller footprint, which helps automakers save space and weight—key factors for extending driving range. The 15 per cent loss reduction further supports overall vehicle efficiency. While Onsemi has not provided a timeline for series production or named specific automaker partners, the platform signals a continued push to refine the electrical backbone of next-generation EVs.
