NYC Taps Brooklyn Startup to Add Almost 700 Curbside EV Chargers Across All Five Boroughs

New York City has picked a Brooklyn-based company, it’s electric, to provide the equipment for what will become a permanent network of curbside EV charging points. Under the plan, close to 700 Level 2 chargers will be installed throughout all five boroughs over the coming three years.

The decision hands a local startup a central role in expanding street-side charging access in the country’s most densely populated city, where many drivers lack garages or private driveways. Level 2 charging, while slower than DC fast charging, is generally suited to overnight and long-dwell parking situations typical of residential streets.

By embedding chargers directly into the curb rather than relying solely on dedicated lots or stations, the program aims to meet EV owners where they already park. The rollout is expected to unfold gradually, with the full set of roughly 700 points arriving within a three-year window.
