Nio Recalls 686 Firefly EVs in China Due to Steering Sensor Defect

Nio is recalling a small batch of its Firefly electric vehicles in China after a manufacturing flaw was found that could disrupt steering sensor signals. The recall affects 686 units built between March 20 and April 2, 2026, according to the company’s filing with Chinese regulators.

The problem stems from a production issue that may cause abnormal readings from the steering sensor, potentially compromising vehicle control. Nio has not disclosed any incidents or injuries linked to the defect.

Owners of the affected Firefly models will be contacted directly, and the necessary repairs or part replacements will be carried out at no cost. The recall is limited to a specific production window, so the vast majority of Firefly EVs on the road are not impacted.

This action highlights the ongoing scrutiny on EV safety systems as automakers ramp up output of new models. Nio’s quick response aims to address the issue before it leads to more serious concerns.
