Nexeon Secures £100 Million to Scale UK Silicon Anode Production

Oxfordshire-based battery materials specialist Nexeon has completed a £100-million ($133-million) funding round aimed at expanding its silicon anode manufacturing capacity in the UK. The round was anchored by a £52.6-million ($70-million) contribution from the National Wealth Fund, a UK state-backed investor.

Two additional participants joined the round as first-time backers: Honda’s open innovation arm, Honda Xcelerator Ventures, and the Korea Development Bank. Their involvement signals widening corporate and financial interest in next-generation anode technology.

The new capital builds on Nexeon’s earlier fundraising efforts, including a $170-million round closed in 2022, as the company pushes to commercialise silicon anodes that promise higher energy density than conventional graphite alternatives.
