Musk Revives Talk of 200-mph Austin–San Antonio Hyperloop Tunnel

Elon Musk has once again floated the idea of a high-speed tunnel linking Austin and San Antonio, claiming the Boring Company could move passengers between the two cities at 200 mph and cut the trip to under half an hour. He shared the assertion on X over the weekend, offering no route map, no construction schedule, and no price tag.

For longtime observers of Musk’s tunnel ventures, the announcement carries a familiar weight. Similar Hyperloop concepts have been presented for well over ten years, and none have materialized into an operating system. The gap between the pitch and the pavement has become a recurring theme.

As it stands, the latest Austin–San Antonio proposal remains a social media post rather than a funded infrastructure project. Until detailed plans, permitting, and financing appear, the 30-minute corridor stays firmly in the concept stage.
