Mitsui Kinzoku and Factorial Team Up to Industrialize Solid-State Battery Production

Japan’s Mitsui Kinzoku has entered a partnership with US-based Factorial to push all-solid-state battery manufacturing toward commercial scale. The two companies aim to combine Factorial’s cell chemistry with Mitsui Kinzoku’s materials and production expertise, an arrangement meant to move the technology out of the lab and into volume output.

Solid-state cells replace the liquid electrolyte found in conventional lithium-ion packs with a solid material, a change engineers expect to deliver higher energy density and improved safety. Manufacturing these cells at scale, however, remains the sector’s central challenge, which is why materials suppliers and cell developers are increasingly pairing up.

The tie-up follows a broader wave of alliances across the battery industry as carmakers and suppliers race to bring next-generation storage to market. For Factorial, the deal adds an industrial partner with deep experience in advanced materials; for Mitsui Kinzoku, it opens a route into a battery segment expected to grow as electric vehicle demand expands.
