Lucid Rolls Out New UX 3.0 to 2025+ Air Models, Older Owners Must Pay for Hardware Upgrade

Lucid Motors has started rolling out its latest infotainment interface, called UX 3.0, to 2025 and newer Air electric sedans. The update, which the company says delivers a more refined and responsive user experience, will be available free of charge for these newer vehicles. The move underscores Lucid’s ongoing efforts to improve its software offerings and keep its flagship sedan competitive in the luxury EV segment.
For owners of 2022 through 2024 Air models, however, the story is different. Those vehicles require a hardware upgrade in order to support the new software. Lucid has set the price for this upgrade at $950, and owners will need to schedule a service appointment to have the necessary components installed. The company has not specified exactly what hardware changes are involved, but the upgrade is clearly aimed at bridging the gap between older and newer Air variants.
This approach mirrors a growing trend among automakers, where advanced software features are tied to newer hardware platforms. While some brands offer over-the-air updates that work across older models, physical hardware limitations can prevent certain enhancements from being deployed universally. Lucid’s decision highlights the tension between pushing the envelope on digital experiences and accommodating existing customers.
The news comes as Lucid continues to expand its lineup with the upcoming Gravity SUV, which is expected to feature the same UX 3.0 interface. By standardizing its software across models, the automaker aims to deliver a consistent experience and streamline future updates. For now, 2025+ Air owners can enjoy the new interface at no extra cost, while earlier adopters face a choice: pay for the upgrade or stick with the previous software.
