LG Energy Solution and Seoul National University Advance LMR Battery Stability

LG Energy Solution has reported progress in its work on lithium manganese-rich (LMR) batteries, carried out together with Seoul National University. According to the company, the two partners have developed an approach that improves the stability of this battery chemistry.

In testing, large-format cells built with the new approach showed better cycle stability. That matters because LMR cells are attractive for their lower reliance on scarce and costly metals, but they have historically struggled with degradation over repeated charge and discharge.

The results point to a potential path toward more durable LMR cells, though LG Energy Solution has not yet indicated when the technology might reach commercial production. Further development and validation are expected before any market introduction.
