Kia PV5 Passenger 7-Seater Now Qualifies for UK Electric Car Grant, Slashing Starting Price

Kia’s three-row PV5 Passenger has officially cleared the eligibility hurdle for the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG), a move that trims £1,500 off every trim level of the seven-seat electric people mover. With the subsidy applied, the entry-level PV5 Passenger 7-seater now carries an on-the-road price of £35,495 — roughly $47,000 at current exchange rates.
The announcement completes a process Kia began earlier this year. When order books opened for the 2027 model year PV5, the automaker confirmed that its five-seat variants qualified for the £1,500 grant but indicated the seven-seat configuration would receive its own eligibility decision shortly. That confirmation arrived, extending the discount across all grades of the three-row version.
The PV5 represents Kia’s first purpose-built electric van, developed under the company’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy. It comes in two primary body styles: a Cargo version aimed at commercial operators and a Passenger model positioned as a family-focused daily driver. The seven-seat Passenger variant, introduced in June, adds a third row with a 2-2-3 seating arrangement. Kia claims class-leading interior dimensions, including up to 1,732 mm of legroom, 1,075 mm of headroom, and 1,732 mm of shoulder room.
UK buyers of the seven-seat PV5 get a single powertrain option: a long-range 71.2 kWh battery delivering up to 246 miles on the WLTP cycle. The pack supports DC fast charging at rates up to 150 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% top-up in under half an hour. Pricing spans three grades — Essential, Plus, and Elite — with the grant applied across the board.
Kia’s broader electric lineup in the UK, which now includes the EV2, EV3, EV4, and the PV5 Passenger, all benefit from the ECG. The brand has been on a strong run in Europe, registering 377,078 vehicles between January and August 2026, a 9% year-over-year increase that made it the continent’s fastest-growing top-10 passenger-car brand through that period. In the UK specifically, Kia ranks as the second-best-selling EV brand through the first nine months of 2026, trailing only Tesla.
Kia is already preparing its next move in the electric van space. The larger PV7, which will offer seating for up to nine passengers, is slated to arrive next year, signaling the brand’s intent to build out a full family of PBV models for both commercial and personal use.
