Florida Sheriffs Program Adds EV Charging Hardware for Public Agencies

Florida’s public sector entities, from county offices to educational institutions, can now access EV charging infrastructure through a streamlined procurement channel. The Florida Sheriffs Association Cooperative Purchasing Program, a well-known aggregation of pre-vetted vendors, has expanded its catalog to include electric vehicle supply equipment. This inclusion means eligible agencies can bypass lengthy individual bidding procedures and tap into negotiated contracts with trusted suppliers.

One of the approved vendors under this scheme is Verdek, a Maryland-based distributor specializing in EV charging solutions. Verdek’s participation allows Florida agencies to acquire both Level 2 and DC fast-charging hardware with ease, leveraging the program’s existing legal and administrative framework. This move is expected to expedite the rollout of charging networks across the state’s public parking lots, fleet yards, and community facilities.

While sheriffs themselves may not directly be in the EV charging business, their association has provided a valuable service to all public agencies. By integrating EVSE into the cooperative purchasing list, Florida is lowering barriers for municipalities and other public bodies aiming to support the transition to electric mobility.
