Ferrari Testarossa Flat-12 Engine Becomes a One-of-a-Kind Coffee Table

A genuine Ferrari Testarossa engine, originally removed from a 512 TR under warranty due to a cracked crankcase, has been repurposed into a striking piece of automotive furniture. The engine, a 4.9-liter flat-12 (which Ferrari insists is a 180-degree V12), now serves as the base for a custom coffee table called ‘Cuore Aperto’ — Italian for ‘Open Heart’.
The table’s design exposes the engine’s internal components in an exploded-view arrangement. The crankcases, cylinder heads, and intake manifolds were refinished with a combination of tri-tone chrome-effect powder coating and Ferrari-style red crinkle finish, creating a visually dramatic centerpiece. A 48-by-36-inch glass top rests on the intake manifolds, positioned 20.5 inches above the floor, with adjustable feet for stability. Despite the internal crack that caused a coolant leak, the flaw is not visible externally, and the engine comes with a Ferrari warranty tag displayed in an acrylic frame.
This unique piece is being offered for sale at no reserve by Ben’s Automotive Decor in Atascadero, California. It represents a fusion of automotive history and functional art, appealing to enthusiasts who appreciate the engineering legacy of the Testarossa, a car that remains one of the most iconic supercars of the 1980s.
