EV Roundup: Tesla Unlocks Vehicle-to-Home Power, Kia EV3 Impresses, Jaguar Type 01 Turns Heads

A busy stretch in the electric vehicle world delivered a mix of first drives, new hardware capabilities, and fresh design statements this week.

The biggest piece of practical news came from Tesla, which finally switched on vehicle-to-home (V2H) functionality for the Model 3 and Model Y. That means owners of two of the world’s most popular EVs can now use their car’s battery to supply electricity to their house — a feature long expected and long demanded. Battery capacity sitting in a driveway is wasted capacity, and V2H turns each car into a rolling home backup. Not every automaker has moved as quickly on this front, so Tesla’s rollout could raise expectations across the segment.

On the review side, the Kia EV3 got its first drive, and the early verdict points to exactly what many buyers have been waiting for: an affordable EV that doesn’t feel like a compromise. Kia has been steadily building out its electric lineup, and a smaller, more accessible model slots neatly beneath its larger crossovers. Meanwhile, Jaguar’s new Type 01 EV drew attention for its striking, almost villainous styling — a deliberate break from the brand’s traditional look as it reinvents itself around electric power.

Tesla also appeared in several other storylines. The company dropped the “Full Self-Driving” name in Europe after pushback from Germany, and reporting on emails suggested the automaker leaned on a Dutch regulator during its FSD review. On the infrastructure side, Tesla opened 14 Semi Megacharger stalls along the corridor between Atlanta and Savannah — a sign that its heavy-duty truck program is quietly building out real-world charging capacity.

Elsewhere, BMW’s new iX4 was reported to offer 428 miles of range with a starting price above $66,000, Lucid’s Q3 deliveries fell 7% as it cut production by 38%, Porsche confirmed an all-electric Boxster for 2028 while insisting the 911 will stay combustion-powered, and Geely confirmed it will enter Canada with its first cars in 2027 — though no specific models were named yet.
